Privacy Policy — NoteKS
NoteKS is a browser extension that lets users add personal notes to accounts they see on x.com.
Data Collection
This extension does not collect, process, or transmit your notes, photos, settings, or any personal data to any server. Everything you add is stored only in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local).
Data Handled Locally
NoteKS handles the following data, only inside your browser:
- Page content: the usernames and profile links it reads on x.com pages so it can show its icon next to the right people. Nothing else on the page is stored.
- Information you write: the notes, photos and usernames you save. Notes can mention identifiable people.
- Your master password, if you turn on encryption: it is used to derive an encryption key and is never stored. The key stays in memory only.
Encryption
If you use the optional encryption feature, the text of your notes and any attached photos are encrypted with AES-256. The usernames you attach notes to, and the time each note was created, are NOT encrypted - anyone with access to your browser profile could see which accounts you have notes about, but not what the notes say. Your password is never written to disk or sent anywhere; if you forget it, encrypted notes cannot be recovered. While unlocked, a derived key is held in memory only (chrome.storage.session) and is cleared when the browser closes or after a short period of inactivity.
Optional Report & Feedback Form
The settings panel contains a "Report & Feedback" link. If you click it, a Google Form opens in a new browser tab with three technical fields pre-filled by the extension:
- your browser and operating system (e.g. "Brave on Windows"),
- the extension version,
- the most recent error message the extension recorded locally, if any (error text and code location only - never the content of your notes).
The form also has fields you fill in yourself (for example a description of the problem); please do not put personal information there. You can read and edit everything before submitting. Nothing is sent unless you press Submit in the form. Submitted responses are collected through Google Forms and are subject to Google's own privacy policy. The extension itself makes no network requests.
Data Sharing
No data is shared with any third party by the extension. The only data that can leave your device is what you yourself choose to submit through the optional feedback form described above.
Data Deletion
Uninstalling the extension automatically deletes all your notes and settings via Chrome. You can also manually clear your notes anytime from the settings panel. To request deletion of a feedback form submission, open an issue at the address below (describe roughly when you submitted it, and do not include personal details in the issue).
Affiliation
NoteKS is an independent extension. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by X Corp.
